Wipe Out: Week 7

Entering week 7 of therapy, I feel a newfound strength despite lingering numbness in my right leg. A hip replacement looms in my future, mirroring the one I underwent on my left side. Under the guidance of my new physical therapist, Amanda, I've embraced floor exercises to enhance balance, and increased weights for upper body work to challenge my progress.

There’s one particular floor exercise that reminds me of childhood friends surfing off the California shores.  I couldn’t get the hang of hanging 10 back then, I hope I get it now.  Anyway, as I stand on the blue cushion, one foot in front of the other trying to stay upright, all I can hear is the Beach Boys sing California Girl in my head. Today's session, filled with lively banter amongst us older patients, and shared memories of our teenage years in the 1970s, whisked by, leaving me uplifted and grateful for the camaraderie found amidst our shared journey.
