A new study published in Frontiers in Pain Research links poor oral health to increased body pain, migraines, and abdominal distress in women, especially those with fibromyalgia. Researchers in Australia assessed 158 women using WHO's oral health questionnaire and saliva samples, finding a strong correlation between poor oral hygiene, higher pain scores, and elevated levels of pain-associated oral microbes. Women with the worst oral health reported more severe body pain and were more likely to experience migraines. The findings suggest that oral dysbiosis may contribute to chronic pain, emphasizing the need to integrate dental care into overall health management.
