It's been a while since my last post. We got settled into the house and then my four granddaughters came to visit. I went from living in a house with just two people to a house full of 9 people. Then I fell, knocked myself out and sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury (post concussion syndrome or pos). I've been going through very extensive physical therapy. I go 2 times a week for 3 hours a day and I see the doctor once every 4 weeks.
Discussions with my Concussion doctor are so interesting. Unfortunately, I'm not remembering many of them. During one visit he asked if I understood what a concussion is. I responded it's like taking a beautifully decorated cake in a sturdy cake holder and shaking the hell out of the cake holder. The cake bounces around and hits the inside of the holder and sustains damage. Then I added, or maybe it's the cake that's been smashed all over a birthday kid's face at his birthday party.
Doc then asked if I could explain the post-concussion disorder. I couldn't so he did. The doctor said, "post-concussion disorder is a low brain energy disorder. It's like charging your phone up to 100% and then spending all day on Snap Chat, TikTok, etc. before you know it your battery is dead. It's like overusing your phone to the point that when you finally plug it up, it never fully charges to 100% and you start each day at an energy deficit. Because the phone never fully charges, tasks that previously only used a little energy now eat up 3, 4 times the energy. You'll find it harder to do simple things, and, yourself getting tired more quickly."
Doc even stated that my Fibromyalgia and gastroparesis symptoms may be aggravated and intensified due to the concussion.
