Does Distraction Really Work?

Writer's picture: Fibro DivaFibro Diva

Fibromyalgia & Traumatic Brain Injury doctors have suggested I practice distraction, you know don't think about this, think about that. Fibro Advocacy helped in the past. I think it gave me a sense of purpose. After FACES disbanded I lost that sense of purpose, that distraction. I need some type of distraction now because I'm finding that the pain of Fibro and TBI is making me a short fuse.

For a while now, I've been trying to learn the language of my mother, Louisiana #KouriVini. Since the concussion last summer it has been incredibly difficult to retain information. I'm hoping that the Louisiana Kouri-Vini Facebook group starts zoom classes.

For my birthday, which was yesterday, my sister gave me a family heirloom dresser. I've started working on refurbishing it. It is going to take a while due to my pain and fatigue so it should be a distraction. Don't think, thinking about the dresser will reduce the pain though.
