I'm glad to see that at least one prime time medical drama has addressed the unnecessary status as collateral damage on the war on opioids faced by people with chronic pain. See the clips below.
First, I've never had a doctor apologize for anything, misdiagnosis or mistreatment, never!!! Second, at least someone on television is addressing the suffering that chronic pain patients are experiencing as collateral damage in the war on opioids.
People who don't endure chronic pain like Fibromyalgia think, all we have to do is think happy thoughts, and our pain will go away. They think all we have to do is not think about our pain and it will go away. Well, I have surrounded myself with things that make me happy, I've put a distance between myself and those things that do not make me happy. Guess what, I'm still in pain. Well, I try not to think about my pain and it sneaks up behind me and cracks me upside the head with a cast-iron skillet yelling look at me, "look at me."
Doctors think if you're not an addict what's your resistance to coming into the office once a week for a prescription refill (if they're inclined to give you one in the first place). Well, I'm not an addict but I can't afford 4 co-pays a month to you doc. I'm on a fixed income, I can't afford four co-pays a month for medication, yes filling one scrip a month for a month's worth of medication IS cheaper than filling four for a week at a time.
I don't watch the show New Amsterdam, but maybe I'll search for this episode. It's been 5 years since I was needlessly pulled off my pain medication. My pain from Fibromyalgia, arthritis, sciatica, and gastroparesis has kept me bedridden this winter. Sometimes it is so bad, it hurts to cry.
