Another day, another text

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. I remember back when I was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I wished I had a doctor who was communicative and informative. You know, one who reached out to me with educational information. I've undergone various surgeries in the past and only spoke with/heard from the surgeon once before my procedure. Some I didn't meet until the day of surgery. Well Dr. Karas is definitely what I wished for. I'm getting 1-3 information texts a day.

Today's texts informed me that:

  1. Nearly 95% of Dr's patients receive spinal anesthesia.

  2. I will definitely be asleep during surgery

  3. the anesthesia team will meet with me the morning of surgery to determine the safest plan for me.

  4. Spinal surgery (albeit a scary thought) is a safer alternative to general anesthesia and results in less blood loss, less nausea (good to know since I have gastroparesis), less drowsiness, improved pain control, and reduced risk of heart attack or stroke

  5. It is time to stop taking anti-inflammatory medications, blood thinners, herbal supplements, vitamins, and joint supplements.

  6. Start washing with the antibacterial soap 5 days before scheduled surgery.
